Donovan Mcnabb
No quarterback has been more scrutinized this season then Donovan Mcnabb. After getting off to a slow start, the Eagles follow that up with inconsistent play. Then there came the Cincinnati Bengals game in which the end result of the game was tie. That’s when the press started to heavily criticize the way Mcnabb was playing and for Mcnabb admitting that he didn’t know that a tie existed in the National Football League. Next week got no better when the Eagles went against the Baltimore Ravens. In that game Mcnabb was benched halfway through the third quarter only trailing by five points. Mcnabb followed that benching with some of the best performances in his career. The Eagles would go on to go four and one over the span of five games, to sneak their ways into the playoffs. In the wild card game, the Eagles defeated the Minnesota Vikings on the road to advance to the divisional playoffs. In the divisional round, they faced the Super Bowl Champions: New York Giants. The Giants were heavily favored to win because of the familiarity between the teams and because they were the champs. The Eagles went into the Meadowlands and outplayed the Giants in every facet of the game leaving the country in shock. Now the Eagles are only one game from the Super Bowl. There’s an old saying “the quarterback gets too much of the blame when the team loses, and the quarterback gets too much of the credit when the team wins”. This saying is especially true with Donovan Mcnabb.

"The quarter back gets to much of the blame for a loss, and also gets to much of the credit for a win" i know that wasn't the exact quote, but what you finished the blog with was nothing buthe truth. when it comes down to it, a quarterback is the leader in the game. of he doesnt perform well it doesn matter how well any one else performs. if the quarterback can't handle the football well, then not only does the morale of the team, and at some point the fans, then there is a fairly low percentaghe of a win to be produced. i have been watching closley the situation and the feedback on Donovon McNabb, and am very interested. i hope to hear more about him from you in the future. keep up the good posts.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing the way the media will jump all over an athlete when he or she plays poorly, says something foolish, or, God forbid, actually admits to being human, owning up to a mistake. Give them a good performance, and they are walking-on-water heroes who can do no wrong. I get tired of these black and white portrayals as seen on the sports pages of prominent periodicals. Besides being bashed by the national media, poor Donovan McNabb has the added disadvantage of residing in a city that invented negativity, playing for disgruntled fans who will boo even if everything is going well! Maybe he will have the last laugh at the Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteIn all honesty,i had no idea that a tie was possible in the NFL. But i'm also not a quarterback in the National Football League for the last ten years. After reading this article it seems peculiar on how many of them we not aware of this rule when they have taken part in so many over time games to the point where one wonders if the Eagles actually play for overtime. Of course the press ate him alive as soon as they got the chance. He is like a vet in this game. How could he not be aware? how could the coaches not make sure to inform their players of these very specific and important rules? In the games to come i wouldn't be surprised if they completely change their game plan since now they can't rely on double or triple over time? When a team plays for overtime like the Eagles have you can't help but speculate on the reasons why and when the quarterback, the teams leading man isn't aware of a rule that can make or break a game it makes me back up a previous statement in another article. Education should always come first!
ReplyDeleteNinety nine percent of the time black guarterbacks will be scrutinized, because it has been said that they do not understand the quarterback position. It's only been about 10 to 15 years now that we have seen so many black quarterbacks in the leauge. They are not suppose to be as smart as their counterparts at that position. But, when you are a quarterback for any team and your team is consistently loosing, you will be the scape goat. Now when the team is winning of course the quarterback will get the praise. Since the quarterback is the leader he should know everything about the game. That means he should know all the rules and regulations that apply to the game. Donavan McNabb should have known that at the end of regulation and then overtime if neither team scored then the game would end in a tie. He is the general out there on the field and he shhould have known the rules.
